Parents' Night Out with The Leslie Science & Nature Center

How does "date night" sound to you? Are you short on a sitter? Perhaps the new Parent's Night Out at the Leslie Science & Nature Center (1831 Traver Rd, Ann Arbor) would be the perfect solution to your dilemma.

On Friday, February 28,  5:00-10:00 p.m.,  kids ages 7-12 can spend a unique evening at the LSNC exploring the grounds and experiencing behind the scenes activities. Play games and enjoy a pizza dinner plus get a special visit with a raptor and time in the Critter House. Later the kids will settle in with a nature-themed movie and snack on popcorn.

The evening is just $25/child and allows for drop off from 5:00-6:00 p.m.. All children must be picked up by 10:00 p.m. Space is limited though and pre-registration for this program is required. Call 734-997-1553 for more information.

Pets & Pajamas Movie Nights at the HSHV

Does your child (age 5+) like spending time with furry friends? Then why not spend an evening at the Humane Society of Huron Valley (3100 Cherry Hill Rd, Ann Arbor) during one of their upcoming Pets and Pajamas movie nights?

Pets and Pajamas movie nights are offered once a month and are a great way for your children to enjoy after hours time at the HSHV! On these Friday nights, 5:00-9:00 p.m., spend time with furry friends, experience animal interactions with adoptable pets, have a vegetarian dinner and then watch an animal themed movie. Make the time a truly memorable experience by wearing pajamas, then bring a sleeping bag and pillow to be ready for animal themed fun while mom and dad have a date night! During the movie, kids also get free popcorn.

at the Humane Society of Huron Valley. What do mom & dad do
while the kids are occupied - It's date-night time!

Fuzzy critter, PJ's and movies. That means it's time for "Pets and Pajamas Movie Night" at the Humane Society of Huron Valley (3100 Cherry Hill Rd., Ann Arbor)!

Kids ages 5+ can enjoy spending time with HSHV furry friends several Friday evenings coming up. Enjoy adoptable animal interactions, a vegetarian dinner and an animal themed movie with popcorn! Kids should plan to wear their PJ's, bring a sleeping bag and pillow and be ready for some animal themed fun. Did I mention that this is a "parents night out" program? That's right, mom and dad can enjoy a date night while the kids are occupied!

The Pets and Pajamas movie night program is offered once a month and is a great way for children to enjoy some after hours time at HSHV! The program runs 5:00-9:00 p.m. allowing for plenty of time for your date. The cost for the Pets and Pajamas Movie Night at the Humane Society of Huron Valley is $35 for the first child and $15 for each additional sibling. Parents Night Out: God of Carnage at Performance Network

On Friday night I got to experience a rare treat with my spouse - a DATE! Earthshattering I know. It seems we haven't dated much since...  Well since we dated, and even then we were both homeowners and homebodies! So when I was given tickets to see God of Carnage at the Performance Network (120 E Huron St., Ann Arbor) I happily accepted.

I wasn't familiar with the storyline, but apparently is it based on a recently released movie, “Carnage.” Many of the audience members were murmuring about the similarities after the lights came up. The play though is about two couples, who meet at one of their homes to discuss a playground altercation between their boys. As the evening progresses, the couples have a civilized battle of wits that devolves into a hilariously chaotic evening.

I was told to expect a "comedy of (bad) manners will change the way you look at polite conversation" but in sitting through the play I had to laugh knowing that I have "seen" glimmers of this type of parenting in some folks I have come across.

Typically the Ann Arbor Mom blog covers "family" themed events and activities, however getting mom and dad out is alos a big part of parenting. After all if mama's happy... 

God of Carnage contains adult themes and language, so its not a kids activity, but the show, which is superbly acted, is a nic night out. God of Carnage runs at the Performance Network through February 19. If however you can't get away for a parents night out before then, this is the 30th Anniversary Season of Performance Network, so there is bound to be another opportunity to experience great theatre in Ann Arbor!

I like to think of God of Carnage as expressing the though “how far would you go if someone hurt your kid?” So, how far would YOU go?
