Movies-in-the-Park: Disney's Planes

This Saturday, June 7, at Ford Heritage Park (Ypsilanti Township) families can bring blankets, chairs and a picnic to enjoy Movies In The Park! This weeks free movie is Disney's Planes.

The night isn't only about the movie as there will be music from sonic tap (7:00 p.m.), games, raffles prizes, activities and the feature presentation  "Planes" at dusk (9:00 p.m.).  The movie will show on a giant video projection system complete with concert stereo sound for maximum enjoyment by families.

This is the first of five outdoor movies planned this summer in our beautiful park system. Future Movies in the Park will continue on the first Saturday of every month through October. These events are FREE for ALL ages!

Free Indoor Play at Ypsilanti Community Center

It's a rainy or cold day and your toddler is running around like sugar-crazed, caffeine-pumped mega-monster. (Yes I know that NEVER happens!) What's a parent to do? If you are a lucky Ypsilanti Township resident, have no fear, there is a convenient and fun solution.

Weekdays from 9:30 - 11:30 am, October 12 through June 4, 2010, the township community center allows children (under the age of 4) to jump and romp their extra energies away at Tot Time. Tot Time fills their large space with balls, large building blocks, ride on/push toys and a Little Tykes basketball hoop for the most active child to enjoy (You can always tote your own toys too!)

This program is FREE, however parents must be in attendance and supervise their children. For more information, call the Ypsilanti Township Community Center at 734-544-3800, at www.ytown.org or become a FAN of YTRD on Facebook.

Check Out The Ypsilanti Twp Firehouse!

Boys and firetrucks seem to go hand in hand, so when we moved to the township a few years ago and read about their open house we endulged our son with the event. It was a great expereicne, and the fire department even enlightened us by going on a real call, with lights and sirens blazing. While my son isn't as into firetrucks as he used to be, our little girl does get a kick out of the lights and sirens, so we'll likley take her to this weekend's fire department open house!

The open house includes fire truck displays and demonstrations, stove fire demonstrations, Jaws of Life demonstration, general fire safety, and more. Representatives from Med Flight, HVA, DTE, WCSD and otehr local agencies will also be on hand to answer any questions.

Hurry and Get the Scoop!

This past weekend, I took my children to Hershey's Ice Cream in Ypsilanti Township in the Paint Creek Plaza. They have a GREAT deal for kids under 18 - sign up for the Hershey birthday club to receive a FREE hand-dipped ice cream cone on your birthday! What is better than free ice cream?

This wasn't just any scoop of ice cream either, Hershey's kids birthday cones look more like the typical double-scoop cone, they were HUGE. My kids couldn't even eat it all in one setting.

Hershey's Ice Cream and the Blue Spoon Grill have been in Ypsilanti Township for several years now. They have won many awards for their great food and ice cream and feature a menu that boasts more than 114 flavors of ice cream, smoothies, burgers, Chicago style hot dogs, chicken strips, and more! One can argue that they serve up some of the best ice crfeam in Ypsilanti Township and even the larger metro area - They were even nominated to be on the WDIV 4 THE BEST list as one of the Detroit area's best local businesses!

Summer or winter it's a great alternative to other fast food options in the township, stop by and see for yourself. Don't forget to sign your children up for the Hershey's Ice Cream birthday club too, so that they can receive their yummy FREE ice cream cone in the month of their birthday!
