This is the perfect time of the year to get outdoors. Everyone can benefit from the fresh air - Mom, Dad AND the kids. So why not take advantage of National Trail Day?
On Saturday, June 6, 2015 there are plenty of opportunities to participate in organized hikes locally. I will be hiking as part of the Iron Belle Trail dedication hike where 130 Scout Troops throughout the state will hike from Belle Isle to Ironwood in a single day. Of course my group only has 5.5 miles of that! Don't let that scare you though. Your hike can be as short or long as you like!
There are two local organized hikes that Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation are leading. The first begins at 10:00 a.m. and ends at 1:00 p.m. at the Leonard Preserve (N Union St, Manchester, MI 48158) and the second runs 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Squires Preserve (Sylvan Rd, Chelsea, MI 48118). All ages are welcome to participate. Bring a snack, water or lunch and dress appropriately.
If you are not able to walk tomorrow, on Sunday there is another 1-mile family friendly walk too. The Family Adventure Walk is a free event from 10:00 a.m.-noon at Lily Park (Ellsworth and Platt). Enjoy activities sponsored by the Leslie Science Center, and Ann Arbor Hands On Museum as well as find food, fun and t-shirts! It's all about getting outdoors this weekend.

Weekend Event Round-up: Sept 6-8
Hello Ann Arbor families - It's going to be a beautiful weekend! I can't wait to get out there. I'm hoping the weather allows for some outdoor play, perhaps even a bike ride or hike! I'll certainly be foraging a bit and preserving some of the goods from my garden, however with the weather we are supposed to have, who wants to be tied to the kitchen? I want to find a great activity for my kids to enjoy.
What about you? Do you have any activities or events in mind this weekend in Ann Arbor with the kids?
Here's hoping this weekend's event round-up will spark an idea for you...
Friday, September 6:
Saturday, September 7:

Week 14 - Weekend Events Round-up: April 5-7
I'm glad and sad that the kids will be back in school Monday. Spring break has been nice, but at the same time, having time to get things done, without their fights, will be really nice too. Anyone else happy about spring break coming to an end?
This weekend will be a busy one for my family One kid will be at a sleepover then bowling for a birthday party for a friend, the other is having a meeting for his Washtenaw County Science Olympiad Team and I will be at the Skywarn Spotter Training tomorrow for the county. There are however a couple of noteworthy weekend events happening in AnnArbor including FestiFools and the Dance for Mother Earth Powwow. Families are always welcome to check out the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History and all it has to offer, including a new planetarium show called Larry the Cat.
What are your weekend plans? Have anything special on your weekend event planner??? Check out a few of these opportunities for the kids.

Celebrate The Harvest Season
To help the family understand how foods were processed 100 years ago, or to understand where electricity got started, taking a mill tour may be just what you need! There are two such mills in Washtenaw County where families can learn such things. At Parker Mill, families will learn how the Parker family used waterpower to grind flour, turn a lathe, and run other machines. While the Sharon Mill, part of the Ford legacy offers a better understanding of how electrical power was produced.
Both Parker and Sharon Mills will be running free programs at several times throughout September and October. Take your family, child's class or scout troop - It's fun and free education for all! Take a picnic lunch and your camera, both places offer exceptional scenery to enjoy as well.
